HOODLUMS TAKE OVER INDIA ?

While i was in Delhi for 5 days, I happened to attend a party in one of the elitist clubs of Delhi, where eminent people from different professions get together in the evenings for a social interaction, play cards or they enjoy their drinks in the pub. I came across 2 senior army officials ( retd. ), one high ranking air force guy ( retd. ) and 3 businessmen, one of them an eminent personality, in the same party. All of them were concerned about the latest events taking place in our country, specially bomb blasts and law & order situation in the country. One of them described all this as a pattern, the other attributed it to a foreign country, trying to de-stabilise India and others were putting in their bit. But all seemed very concerned.

I wonder why these discussions remain limited to AC halls and nothing happens on the ground ! I had all the intentions to ask them that instead of talking, which we all do, about the turmoil, why were they not doing something on the ground being powerful people, who had a standing in the society and resources to act upon ? But being a guest myself and unknown to most of them, i did not find it appropriate and prudent to embarrass them. But since I have their visiting cards with me, I will certainly email this page to them. While returning back to Amritsar in Shatabdi, i did some introspection and came to the conclusion that hoodlums have taken over our country.

On the economic front, as India expands into global terrains, a centrifugal force is gathering momentum. This force however, is being pulled back, through an equally strong centrifugal force that looks inward, is fragmented and savage in its execution. The most high-profile wart of this centrifugal force is the Nano's undignified exit from Singur. Ratan Tata had said that Mamta Banerjee had pulled " the trigger on his head ", forcing him to move out of West Bengal to Gujarat.. Ealier L.K. Chaudhery, CEO, of a foreign company was beaten to death by his own workers in Noida, some 20 minutes away from the national capital.

North Indians are being targeted in Mumbai by Raj Thackeray and his Sena as an investment into future elections to garner local votes. A young journalist dies a mysterious death in Delhi and its Chief Minister, Sheila Dixit says, women should not be " adventurous " and that companies, not the police, should take responsibility for their safety. Never has the need for law and order as the first and foremost electoral expectation of voters been so high, so acute. As this anarchy gets political support, we are gradually being pushed into a corner, where an unvoiced frustration with governance is systematically eating into our democratic and civilised innards. With weapons in the hands of a small clutch of ineligible political aspirants, the man on the street has never been in as much in physical danger as on today. Lawmakers are breaking the law as if it's their birth right. Those whom voters have entrusted with democratic power and white car privileges--- and with them the responsibilty to provide law and order----- are all but numbed into submission under this new force gathering strength, issue by issue, in state after state. And our freedoms (" Today terrorists are being worshipped ") said Justice J.N. Patel referring to Raj Thackeray who, in turn, instead of feeling the fear of the law is brazenly asking the court " to define a terrorist ".

The West Bengal Chief Minister Buddadeb virtually offered a free hand to Mamta Banerjee and her mob to stop workers seeking nothing more than an honest day's job from working. The Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Desmukh is standing still watching non- Maharastrians citizens of India being beaten and threatened, their businesses, taxis and trade being destroyed. Orissa Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has nothing more than to offer, just lofty words to Christians being mauled in the state.

We, the silent majority have allowed this small band of hoodlums to decide whether, we have the right to work, to religion, to celebration, to life, to love. A leveraged buyout is underway where a small bunch of private interest groups cobble together to create visible damage for maximum impact. We are being forced into believing that violence is the currency of political or social intercourse in a modern, trillion dollar economy. These mobs and their political masters need to be dragged under the purview of the law, before this belief system becomes a mass religion.

In the last elections, with a focus on economic growth, our attention moved from " roti, kapda aur makan " to " bijli, sadak-pani ". Its time now to go back to basics and devise a new slogan around " suraksha-kanoon-dand " and implement it ruthlessly. POLITICAL PROFITS ARE GUARANTEED.

Until thast happens, can anyone tell me whare i can buy a gun ? DO SOMETHING. KUCCH KARO !

Dear Vikas,

Nice to find your comments after a long gap. Yes, I am also a fan of Narendra Modi. He deserves the Prime Ministerial post. Otherwise, the country is full of impotent people and Gandhi tailers. But the problem is that personal ambitions stop, men like Modi to get to the top. I am sure, if Narendra Modi is potrayed as a Prime Ministerial candidate, the BJP can sweep the coming elections but there is always a big BUT...

Vaneet, I can feel your anger mounting up.It is quite natural to be frustrated, when a country like ours is being visibly and gradually eaten up by political termites. Expecting people who are in services to do something is impossible as these people only know how to please their seniors only. And when people in services retire they then start voicing their frustations only in AC halls and drawing rooms, showing how incompetent and impotent they really are, in or out of service. The fault lies with us also as we all try to pamper beaurocrats, politicians or for that matter anyone who really is important. We invite them to be chief guests of functions, praise them for the work they have not done and paint a very noble picture of them, with just one motive in mide i.e; to get our work done. How pathetic it is that the officer will not, do the work he is supposed to do, till we scratch his/her back.It is only in reel life that we see good officers doing something for their country.Or very few ones in real. We so far can only pray to God to help our country. life.

Law and order definitely is a cause for concern, especially when you look at the alarming rise in everyday incidents of lawlesslessness. However,we must remember never to underestimate our own poweri.e.the power of the people...tne common man(or for that matter, woman too !) on the street is not helpless...we become helpless because we like to think of ourselves as victims...I'll share an incident with you...it happened a few months back, right in the lane next to my house in Ranjit Avenue,a "posh" locality of Amritsar. It was a sunday afternoon,i and a friend of mine came out of my house and just as we were to get into the car,we saw an old ,rather poorly dressed woman ,running and stumbling on the road ,screaming"Oh my earrings...he's taken my gold earrings...pl.catch him ...someone please stop him!"And then we saw a young man on a scooter driving very fast ,and as he turned into the lane next to my house,my friend and I ran after him.Hearing our cries, a rickshawpuller tried to stop him and there was a scuffle.Meanwhile, the robbed woman ,who was around seventy years of age, caught hold of the scooter from behind and as the man started driving again, she was dragged on the road. Finally,we caught him,and seeing the blood coming out of the woman's face and her generally bruised condition,my enraged friend hit the man on his head with a stone. That surely stopped him in his tracks! As it was a sunday, the men in the houses of that lane also came out and held the man there till he was handed over to the police...the woman's hands were covered in blood..but she was oblivious to pain.Holding the earrings in her bloodied hands, she kept smiling and thanking us"you are my daughters...you dont know how much these earrings matter to me...I couldnt have gone home without them."Later,we came to know that on the same day itself, the man had snatched a couple of gold chains too, which were found on his person. He had also been carrying a dagger with him, which he never got the chance to use!

This scenario reflects the basic mentality we Indians have had for centuries. Otherwise the Britishers couldn't have ruled us for hundreds of years when their total number in India never exceeded 20000! Same applies for Mughals and other rulers who recognized the frickleness of Indian character and our preference of personal gains over public good. We rarely want to do anything for the soceity unless some personal gain is also involved. And, unfortunately, this applies even more so for the so called "Public Servants" and our so called "Leaders". No doubt Modi has proven to be a good leader in this regard. But we need more Modis. And - may be - more Vaneet Kundras too !

Dear Dr. Manchanda, Ms Walia & Rajiv,

Thanks for your comments. I have reached to a conclusion that the ultimate tool of change rests in our hands. Bravo ! Ms Walia, you are a strong woman and we need more strong persons like you, who give verdict & justice on the spot. We educated people must get together to form an NGO, which can force the administration to do, what is required from them. We have enough laws to tackle lawlessness, only implementation is the need of the hour. I would rather say not " KUCCH KARO " but " KUCCH KAREY ". Let us do something in a small way to fight the menace of law & order and other important issues. Let us show our " anger " as Dr. Manchanda says and not be submissive as Rajiv rightly put. Let us start small by forming an NGO. " HALLA BOLE. Let us tell & convey strongly to the authorities, start doing your work or else...
